A Record Number of BKD Associates Receive the Elijah Watt Sells Award
NATIONAL OFFICE – Four associates at BKD CPAs & Advisors—Elizabeth Ahrens, Brett Coffman, Dakota Comer and Austin Krug—have received the 2019 Elijah Watt Sells Award. BKD had more award winners than all its peer firms combined, and 2019 also resulted in the most award winners BKD has ever had in a given year.
The American Institute of CPAs (AICPA) awards this honor for outstanding performance on the Uniform CPA Examination®. The standards are demanding: Candidates must achieve a cumulative average score above 95.50 across all four sections and pass them on their first attempt. Out of nearly 75,000 people who took the exam in 2019, only 137 individuals qualified.
“Driven individuals represent the future of our mission-focused firm, and I’m excited to see how Elizabeth, Brett, Dakota and Austin will grow in their careers. I’m proud to congratulate these high achievers on their outstanding accomplishment,” said BKD CEO Ted Dickman.
Ahrens is an associate in BKD’s Dallas office. She graduated from the University of North Texas, Denton, with B.S. and M.S. degrees in accounting. Coffman is an associate in BKD’s Decatur office. He graduated from Millikin University, Decatur, Illinois, with a B.S. degree in accounting and finance. Comer is an associate in BKD’s Springfield office. He graduated from Missouri State University, Springfield, with a B.S. degree in accounting and an M.Acc. degree. Krug is an associate in BKD’s Colorado Springs office. He graduated from American University, Washington, D.C., with a B.S. degree in accounting and economics.
According to the AICPA, the Elijah Watt Sells Award program was established in 1923 to recognize outstanding performance on the CPA exam. Sells, one of the first CPAs in the U.S., was active in establishing the AICPA and played a key role in advancing professional education within the profession.
