Griffin Named BKD National SEC Director
NATIONAL OFFICE – John Griffin, Dallas partner, will succeed Peter Kern as BKD CPAs & Advisors’ national SEC director. Kern was recently named successor to retiring partner Keith Messmer as the East Region Accounting & Auditing director. Griffin will begin transitioning into his new role in early 2020 but will continue to assist the Dallas/Fort Worth (DFW) Financial Services (FS) team throughout next year.
As BKD’s national SEC director, Griffin will help maintain, improve and monitor quality in the firm’s SEC practice. He will provide guidance to engagement teams and clients on the developing standards and rules of the SEC, FASB, PCAOB and the American Institute of CPAs. He has significant experience with both the PCAOB, where he served in the inspections group, and the Office of the Comptroller of the Currency, where he served as a regional accounting advisor.
“John has been instrumental in building a promising FS practice in the DFW market. His industry and regulatory experience provide him with a unique perspective that will greatly benefit our SEC practice clients,” said Partner and National A&A Director Doug Bennett.
Griffin’s experience includes assisting with implementation of management’s assessments on internal control, performing outsourced and co-sourced internal audit functions, including developing internal audit operational risk assessments and internal audit plans and programs, allowance for loan and lease losses methodology reviews and the handling of day-to-day inquiries regarding accounting and strategic issues.
His dedication to his field will help the firm as it aims to serve clients with discipline, passion and excellence.
