Cotter Joins BKD as a Global Tax Integration Practice Director
NATIONAL OFFICE – BKD CPAs & Advisors has rehired Joe Cotter as a director in the firm’s National Tax Services division in its Dallas office. He will be a key member of BKD’s newly developed Global Tax Integration (GTI) practice, which was formed at the beginning of 2021.
GTI helps clients avoid pitfalls in the ever-expanding maze of global tax compliance and reporting and excel in international markets by providing local knowledge through Praxity, AISBL, the world’s largest alliance of independent accounting firms. GTI provides BKD international clients with a single point of contact and offers unique technology solutions for their global tax compliance and provision needs. Whether companies currently have overseas operations or plan to grow and expand internationally, BKD’s GTI services can help evolve their business strategy.
“I am excited to have Joe Cotter leading GTI engagements, coordinating with our international tax, state and local tax and data analytics team members to deliver comprehensive global tax solutions to our clients,” said Rob Wagner, BKD’s National Tax Services managing partner.
Cotter has more than 14 years of experience helping large and midsize companies in the manufacturing, distribution, technology and services industries. He’s taken on a variety of tax and consulting services, including preparation, review and auditing of companies’ ASC 740 tax provisions; federal, state and local tax compliance; IRS dispute resolution and accounting method changes.
“I couldn’t be more excited to come back to BKD. It is a world-class firm, bringing top-notch service to its clients. I look forward to combining my experience with the rest of the GTI team to grow our practice into a market leader in an area of need for so many companies,” said Cotter.
Cotter began his career as a BKD intern and joined BKD full time after completing his M.Acc. degree. After three years at BKD, he spent 10 years with two international firms working with large, publicly traded corporations to identify planning opportunities related to accounting methods. Cotter also worked with middle-market public and private companies to manage their entire tax life cycle, from year-end provisions to federal and state compliance. This experience is key to his leadership within BKD’s GTI practice.
