BKD Launches Specialized Team to Serve IDD & BH Providers

News Release

NATIONAL OFFICE – BKD CPAs & Advisors BKD National Health Care Group has expanded focused efforts toward serving the unique, intrinsic needs of intellectual or developmental disabilities and behavioral health (IDD and BH) providers nationwide.

The need for government-regulated IDD and BH providers was jump started after reporter Geraldo Rivera’s exposé of poor conditions at Willowbrook State School in 1972. New York Partner Brian O’Reilly has specialized in the field since 1983. He’s part of a dedicated BKD team serving 200 IDD and BH providers to help these organizations meet state funding requirements. After acquiring New York-based firm Loeb & Troper in 2018, BKD decided to further grow the specialty and provide it nationwide.

“We’re all driven by their mission to help individuals with developmental disabilities. I love working with the agencies because they have a passion for it, and it just makes you feel good about what you’re doing,” said O’Reilly.

With more than 30 years of experience, O’Reilly has provided the foundation for a successful team. He has mentored many professionals, including New York Partner Bryant Macaraeg, who has nearly 20 years of experience in the field. They are committed to helping others, which motivates them in the work they do for others.

“My knowledge, my education is being used to help people who really need it. I’m dedicated to helping these organizations, because, ultimately, I’m helping the people they serve. I can say I’m giving back to the community,” said Macaraeg.

BKD recently joined the nationwide IDD trade association—the American Network of Community Options and Resources (ANCOR)—and presented at its annual conference in May. ANCOR requested that BKD present a training in conjunction with the National Association of States United for Aging and Disabilities (NASAUD), an organization that represents all state governmental agencies on aging and disabilities.

BKD’s expansion of its special needs footprint includes raising awareness. The team has presentations planned for the Financial Management Association International (FMA) January and May conferences and the InterAgency Councils of Developmental Disabilities Agencies, Inc. (IAC) June conference. Learn more by visiting bkd.com/idd_bh.
