The 2017 annual Las Vegas ESOP Conference & Trade Show hosted by The ESOP Association drew more than 1,600 participants during two days in early November. More than 60 individual breakout sessions were offered, including a track entirely focused on internal fiduciaries. The conference also included a networking reception for attendees to meet and greet other employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) companies, service providers and prospective ESOP companies.

Keynote addresses were delivered by Folience President and Chief Executive Officer (CEO) Daniel Goldstein, Moretrench American Corporation CEO Arthur Corwin and EarthBalance Corporation CEO Sarah Laroque. All three panelists participated in the UPenn ESOP CEO leadership program. The panelists discussed their experiences in the program, what it takes to be an effective leader in an ESOP company and how employee ownership was an important component in their company’s success.

The ESOP Association President J. Michael Keeling gave a political update and shared his outlook on the current legislative environment from Washington, D.C., via webcast. He focused on current tax reform efforts and effects on ESOPs as well as the effect of upcoming 2018 elections. Keeling further discussed activity concerning ESOPs in the U.S. Department of Labor—here’s a video of Michael’s update.
