USAC-Elected Lifeline Recertification

Federal Lifeline program service providers know their subscribers must requalify each year to receive their monthly benefit.

Elections will automatically renew for service providers that elected Universal Service Administrative Company (USAC) for the 2017 calendar year to handle annual recertification. Only resubmit an election spreadsheet for 2018 if your contact information has changed.

If you’re not sure your company has elected USAC to handle subscriber recertifications on your behalf, check their current list of participating study areas.

How to Elect USAC

Beginning May 15, 2017, USAC began accepting elections for 2018 calendar-year subscriber recertifications. The first recertification batch will cover Lifeline subscribers with January 2018 anniversaries; this process will be initiated in September 2017.

To elect USAC, complete the recertification election spreadsheet and email it to USAC. Service providers also may limit the study areas for which USAC performs the recertification process.

Once made, the election is considered final. That means it will be automatically renewed each year until the service provider officially revokes its election. If a service provider doesn’t elect USAC by the deadline, it’s assumed the service provider will conduct its own recertification process.

Before electing USAC, take some time to review USAC’s process and contact USAC if you have any questions.

Note that service providers who didn’t previously elect USAC for the 2017 calendar year are still responsible for recertifying subscribers with anniversary dates prior to January 2018.

June 30, 2017, is an important deadline for electing or revoking USAC to perform the 2018 recertification process.
