Additional Opportunity for Medicare Providers to Apply for HHS Provider Relief Funds
On August 10, 2020, the U.S. Department of Health & Human Services (HHS) announced that Medicare fee-for-service providers that received funding in phase 1 of the HHS Provider Relief Fund General Distribution but missed the June 3, 2020, deadline to apply for additional funding from phase 2 of the General Distribution are again eligible to apply for phase 2 funding until August 28, 2020.
Phase 2 funding levels are designed to bring total funding from both phases of the general distribution to 2 percent of total patient care revenue (all payors, not just Medicare revenue) for eligible Medicare providers. Eligible Medicare providers that haven’t received this level of total funding from the general distribution phases and have incurred qualifying COVID-19-related expenses or lost revenue not covered by other funding should consider applying for general distribution phase 2 funding prior to the deadline.
To receive additional phase 2 funding, eligible providers are required to complete an attestation and application on the HHS Provider Relief Fund General Distribution Payment Portal.
As a reminder, general distribution phase 1 funding was distributed to eligible Medicare providers (generally in April or early May 2020) without requiring the completion of an application. As described above, however, general distribution phase 2 distributions were generally received only by providers that completed an application by the original June 3, 2020, deadline. Since many providers missed that deadline, HHS is offering this additional opportunity to apply for phase 2 funding between August 10 and August 28, 2020.
