On February 3 and 4, 2021, the ESOP Association virtually hosted the 2021 annual ESOP Professionals’ Forum. The event is the only conference designed exclusively for professionals who provide financial, valuation, advisory, and legal assistance to employee stock ownership plan (ESOP) companies.

The first day opened with an advocacy update from ESOP Association President Jim Bonham and was followed by a discussion regarding the current trends in ESOP litigation, enforcement actions, and Department of Labor investigations. The first day concluded with ESOP Association committee meetings, including Administration, Finance, Valuation, Legal & Regulatory, and Fiduciary.

The second day continued with all conference attendees and included an agenda of many hot topics in the ESOP community. Attendees enjoyed a lively discussion on the new required lifetime income disclosures on participant ESOP statements, accounting issues with Paycheck Protection Program (PPP) loans, the effects of PPP loans and the COVID-19 environment on ESOP valuations, and how to promote diversity, equity, and inclusion in employee-owned companies.
