CMS recently released a detailed Minimum Data Set (MDS) 3.0 item set that is due to go into effect on October 1, 2020. The release indicates that Section G of the current MDS will be eliminated from MDS item sets, with the exception of the Other State Assessment (OSA).

Section G under the Resource Utilization Group payment model was responsible for calculating an activity of daily living (ADL) score that affected Medicare payments. As of October 1, 2019, with the current Patient-Driven Payment Model, Section GG of the MDS is now responsible for calculating function scores that impact Medicare payments.

Those state Medicaid programs that continue to rely on ADL scores for payment purposes should stay tuned as we learn more moving forward. If you have questions, please reach out to your BKD Trusted Advisor™ or submit the Contact Us form below.
