As of July 18, 2019, Medicare Administrative Contractors (MAC) began notifying skilled nursing facilities (SNF) of noncompliance with the reporting requirements under CMS Quality Reporting Program (QRP). SNFs determined to be out of compliance with the QRP reporting requirements will have the market basket update applied to their federal fiscal year 2020 Medicare Part A payment rates reduced by 2 percentage points. The reduction will take place for services rendered on or after October 1, 2019, through September 30, 2020. MACs mailed letters to SNFs deemed to be out of compliance and also posted notification in the facilities’ CASPER folder in QIES on July 16, 2019. We recommend SNFs review QIES as soon as possible to determine if they’ve received a notification of noncompliance.

SNFs receiving letters of noncompliance may request reconsideration from CMS via email before 12 a.m. PST on August 15, 2019. Instructions for filing the request for reconsideration are available in the notification letter and on CMS’ website.

If you have difficulty using QIES or need assistance with a reconsideration request, contact your BKD trusted advisor or fill out the Contact Us form below.
