“... The most rewarding aspect of our relationship is having an audit cycle that is efficient, thorough and timely. ...”
Texas Medical Center (TMC) is the world’s largest medical complex and works to advance life sciences. The Houston-based center aims to provide the best health care for its patients, the best in academic training for health care professionals and support for medical research.
TMC had worked with its previous accounting firm for at least 25 years, said Denise Castillo-Rhodes, TMC executive vice president and CFO. When the international firm started increasing its fees with no apparent boost in service quality, TMC considered other firms, she said.
Castillo-Rhodes said BKD fit the profile of what TMC sought: a firm with a Houston presence that appreciated TMC’s history, expertise in adhering to for-profit guidelines and a partner who could develop solutions to issues that arose while TMC implemented a new strategy. BKD professionals made the transition to a new firm smooth by doing due diligence and educating themselves on TMC, and the working relationship has been incredibly productive, she said.
The CFO was not only impressed with BKD’s audit process, but that a partner took the time to discuss upcoming accounting standard changes and how they would affect TMC’s financial statements. BKD advisors also were praised for both their technical knowledge and “soft skills” in presenting and communicating.
