Continuing Professional Education (CPE) FAQs

Overview

What is BKD’s webinar attendance policy?

The National Association of State Boards of Accountancy (NASBA) and the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA) have standards which must be met in order to award CPE credit for webinar participation.  This is especially important for CPAs, since many states require NASBA CPE credit for some or all of the credits needed for license renewal.  To meet the tracking standards for computer and phone connections, as well as computer interactions, all webinar participants must follow these guidelines:

  • Access webinars only through the link provided through your invitation from
    BKD, LLP
  • Answer the polling questions to receive CPE credit (see the chart below).  The system will automatically track the answers to the polling questions

To earn CPE credit for attending a webinar, participants need to answer the polls displayed throughout the webinar.  These polls are interactive questions displayed in a pop-up screen periodically during the webinar.  Participants have approximately 30 seconds to respond to the poll and must respond to at least the minimum number required (see above).

Following the webinar, participants also will receive the opportunity to complete an evaluation of the event via email.

Group Participation

Can I qualify for CPE credit if I watched the live webinar in a group?

Yes, to be eligible for CPE credit, participants in a group must meet all of the minimum eligibility criteria outlined above and also must follow the procedure detailed below.

Groups should designate a leader to be responsible for:

  • Registering for and logging into the live webinar
  • Responding to the required number of poll questions
  • Completing the CPE attendance sheet with the following information:
    • The title and date of the live webinar
    • The group’s company name
    • The printed names, signatures and email addresses of all of the individuals who participated in the webinar as a group
    • The printed name and signature of the group leader to verify and certify that all participants listed on the sheet were present for the entire webinar
  • Submitting the completed attendance sheet within 24 hours of live webinar completion by e-mail to training@bkd.com, or by fax to 417.831.4763, attention:  Cindy Carr

How do I retrieve my CPE certificate of completion if I watched the webinar in a group?

If all eligibility requirements are met, each participant will be emailed their CPE certificates within 15 business days of each event.

Individual Participation

Individuals are not required to complete attendance sheets.  The system will track login time, logoff time and individual interactions to determine CPE eligibility.

How do I receive my CPE certificate?

If all eligibility requirements are met, each participant will be emailed their CPE certificates within 15 business days of each event.

Other CPE-Related Questions

I experienced technical or logistical difficulties during the live webinar, or I had to log off and back on during the webinar.  Can I still qualify for CPE credit?

Yes - if participant(s) still met the minimum requirements listed above.  As a member of the National Registry of CPE Sponsors, webinars must adhere to the NASBA guidelines.  BKD uses online participation time and poll responses to help prove that each participant was actively involved for the duration of the webinar.

Due to these strict regulatory guidelines, we are unable to grant CPE credit when technical or logistical difficulties affect eligibility.  Participants may not receive CPE credit if the eligibility requirements were not met, even if technical issues contributed to ineligibility.

As described above, the webinar technology verifies whether or not participants have satisfied the minimum requirements.  If participants encounter technical difficulties during a live webinar, they should immediately use the “Question” tab for assistance.

I responded to the poll questions using the "Questions" tab on the screen or via email.  Can I still qualify for CPE credit?

Participants must respond to the webinar polls via the pop-up polling screen.  Responses submitted using the "Questions" tab or via email do not qualify.

If participants encounter technical difficulties during a live webinar, they should immediately use the “Question” tab for assistance.

I listened to the live webinar over the telephone.  Can I qualify for CPE credit?

To be eligible for CPE credit while participating in a live webinar, participants also must log into the live webinar online.  Due to NASBA participation requirements, BKD is currently unable to issue CPE for participants who are only listening via conference call.  Participants also must meet the minimum requirements listed above.

Can I watch an archived webinar or listen to a podcast and qualify for CPE credit?

No - only participation in a live webinar qualifies for CPE credit.

Can I respond to polling questions on a tablet?

Yes, if you are viewing the webinar through the Citrix app. The app can be downloaded from your tablet’s app store. Please note: If you view the webinar using a browser on your tablet, you will not be able to respond to polling questions and therefore will not receive CPE credit.

Refund Policy

Is there a refund if participants are unable to attend after registering for a webinar?

There is no cost for our webinar series; therefore there is no cancellation fee or refund policy.  Archived versions of the webinar are available at www.bkd.com/webinars.  However, archived webinars are NOT eligible for CPE credit.
