Our Community Ties

BKD encourages our staff to become actively involved in community organizations and events and to participate in our BKD Foundation outreach where appropriate. It’s our way of supporting the community while expanding our network of business contacts.

Our community involvement is one way BKD gives back to the communities that have given so much to us. Holiday Kicks for Kids

BKD Foundation added to the wow factor by funding 15 bicycles, complete with locks and helmets. The look on the kids’ faces was smiles and joy and said one after running around on the football field, “This is the best day ever!”

For more than 10 years, Kicks for Kids has boosted the holiday happiness factor for area at-risk children. This year more than 100 volunteers turned out at Paul Brown Stadium, serving as chaperones for 50 kids who enjoyed face painting, picking gifts for family members, touring the players’ locker room and running on the Bengals’ football field. More smiles came as the kids received presents such as Bengals’ branded winter jackets, hats and gloves and footballs. Santa Claus, Rudolf the Red-nosed Reindeer, the Grinch, Bengals’ kicker Shayne Graham and mascot Who-Dey joined in this very special, fun evening.

BKD Cincinnati chaperones included Jenny Broomall, Kelly Postlewaite, Marjorie Hull, Meg Freeman, Molly Brown and Sarah Gibson; Chris Linck and Kelly Postlewaite were also part of the present wrapping team.

When you see kids’ reaction to an event like the holiday celebration, experiencing a special evening designed all around them, you know you’re in the right place, doing the right thing for needy kids in the community.

United Way Community Care Week Project:  The House on Sidney Street

United Way’s Community Care Week is an opportunity to help make an impact in the community and Camp Washington Community Board, Inc. had a project for us. The agency's mission is to "improve physical conditions & quality of life by promoting a safe and positive living environment for residents of Camp Washington." A group of BKDers showed up early on a Saturday morning at a home site in Camp Washington, about 5 miles from downtown Cincinnati. Our assignment was to finish demolition on the first floor of the house on Sidney Street. By the end of our 4-hour stint, our team had cleared away almost all of the remaining first floor cracked ceilings & walls, down to the studs, and shoveled the debris into an enormous dumpster. The next phase for the house on Sidney Street involves Camp Washington Community Board, Inc. readying it to sell to a new owner who will customize & finish the home to his/her needs. More information about this United Way Community Partner is at http://www.camp-washington.org/

For the volunteers, this was a messy, dusty and exhausting job, however part of the reward is seeing the before and after results. Knowing BKD volunteers are part of this important neighborhood change project - Priceless!!
