Community Involvement
BKD encourages our staff to become actively involved in community organizations and events and to participate in our BKD Foundation outreach where appropriate. It’s our way of supporting the community while expanding our network of business contacts.
Our community involvement is one way BKD gives back to the communities that have given so much to us. Go to community involvement or to the other BKD locations for more information about BKD's ties to our communities firmwide and locally. Here is a sample list of organizations our Central Indiana partners and employees take pride in supporting:
CPA Day of Service
Members of BKD’s Indianapolis office take a break after raking leaves at Lutheran Child and Family Services’s Lutherwood facility.
|
Annually, the Indiana CPA Society organizes a CPA Day of Service. As a member of the society, BKD always participates. This year, members of BKD’s Indianapolis and Bloomington offices volunteered at Lutheran Child and Family Services’ Lutherwood facility in Indianapolis and The Middle Way House in Bloomington.
BKD volunteers performed many tasks, including painting, cleaning youth play rooms, organizing clothes, disposing of recyclables, raking leaves and cleaning windows.
Lutherwood is a residential treatment center for children ages 6-21 who are recovering from the effects of abuse, neglect and/or abandonment. Each child's care team includes a psychiatrist, clinical director, clinical program manager, psychiatric nurse manager, education specialist and youth counselor. For more information about Lutheran Child and Family Services, go to www.lutheranfamily.org.
The Middle Way House works to change the environment in which women and children report violence, cope with the trauma of violence and move on with their lives by giving them a safe place to live, making education and training accessible and working with them to develop their capacity to establish positive relationships with others. Junior Achievement’s BIZCAMP
Campers make transactions at Exchange City Bank during Junior Achievement's annual summer BIZCAMP, sponsored by BKD starting this year.
|
With its largest single contribution to date, the Central Indiana BKD Foundation will sponsor Junior Achievement of Central Indiana’s (JACI) BIZCAMP through 2007.
BIZCAMP is a week-long summer day camp for children ages 9-14. The camp runs for six weeks from mid-June through July. JACI anticipates between 400 and 600 campers will attend the fourth annual BIZCAMP.
BIZCAMP uses experiential learning approaches to foster understanding of business and economics, all while having fun. This year’s theme is entrepreneurship and philanthropy, providing campers the opportunity to learn about marketing and advertising, e-commerce, personal finance, insurance, think tanks, business etiquette and much more during the week-long program.
BKD’s involvement extends beyond its financial support. Plans are for BKD professionals to volunteer as instructors on topics such as business finances, accounting and taxes.
Junior Achievement of Central Indiana, Inc. (www.jaindy.org) is a not-for-profit 501(c)(3) organization in affiliation with Junior Achievement Worldwide (www.ja.org). Its purpose is to educate and inspire young people to value free enterprise, business and economics to improve the quality of their lives.
Merrillville Partner Makes Personal Investment in Community
|
Paul Bailey, a BKD partner in Merrillville, is an avid supporter of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana. Not only has he served on the organization’s board for the past several years, he also makes personal financial contributions to help the organization achieve its mission. BKD believes in supporting its partners and employees when they take a personal stake in making a difference in their community. That’s why BKD supports the clubs through annual donations to its operating fund.
The mission of the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana is to inspire and empower all young people, especially those from disadvantaged circumstances, to realize their full potential as productive, responsible and caring individuals.
All programs are based around five core program areas: Character and Leadership Development; Education and Career Development; Health and Life Skills; The Arts; and Sports, Fitness and Recreation. For more information on the Boys & Girls Clubs of Northwest Indiana, go to www.nwipositiveplace.org/.
