Start Your Career as an Intern
You may want to begin your BKD career as an intern. Our program allows qualifying students to spend a semester helping with the kinds of general audit and tax assignments that a first-year staff person is assigned to. After successfully completing the internship, you may receive an offer to return as a staff accountant upon completion of your degree. For details, see our Internships page.
A Team Approach to Client Service
At BKD, we have developed teams of accountants and advisors with specialized service and industry knowledge to deliver a full complement of services to meet client needs. The teams you are assigned to will help you develop the skills and acquire the experience to become a “BKD solution” yourself.

About BKD Wichita

When you join BKD, one of the largest CPA firms in the city, you will have many opportunities for a successful public accounting career. Our clients include middle-market, privately held entities; individuals; franchises; small businesses; and not-for-profits.

BKD’s roots began in Wichita in 1914, with the current office established in 1980. Our office has approximately 50 client service and administrative personnel, including six partners.

Doug Gaston, partner in charge, and Bill Pickert, assistant partner in charge, direct the practice’s operations and administration and Steve Webb is the recruiter.

BKD is a great fit for Wichita. Twice recognized as an “All American City,” Wichita has a strong manufacturing, service and medical base. As a smaller “big city,” Wichita has many of the advantages of a larger metropolitan area: recreational activities, the annual River Festival, theatre, symphony and Exploration Place. It also has ample shopping, short commute times, affordable housing, a low crime rate and easy driving distance to Kansas City or Oklahoma City.

Our Niches & Services

Our office has large tax, health care and not-for-profit practices, in addition to audit and tax services for manufacturers, contractors and financial institutions. Consulting, including business valuations, technology consulting and benefit plan administration, is a growing niche.

Using RIA’s GoSystem RS, we annually process in-house approximately 1,600 tax returns of all types.

Our audit department annually process more than 100 full-disclosure financial statements, including approximately 90 audit reports.

In addition to traditional compliance services, we assist clients with such value-added consulting services as financial planning, debt restructuring, feasibility studies, business valuations, projections and forecasts, business succession planning, small business planning, technology consulting and health care consulting.

Your Ties to the Community

We encourage our staff to become actively involved in community organizations and events and to participate in our BKD Foundation outreach where appropriate. It’s our way of supporting the community while expanding our network of business contacts.

We serve on boards of directors and represent “Team BKD” in charity fund-raising events. The United Way’s “Spirit of the Plains” award we have received for four years exemplifies how we support the community while expanding our network of business contacts.

In Wichita, there are all kinds of ways to have a great time with your coworkers, including checking out the go-carts and golf range at All Star Sports, roller-skating with “Santa” or attending holiday parties and other celebrations.

Through the BKD Matching Gift Program, we support accounting education at the major colleges and universities from which we recruit.
