We surveyed first-year staff accountants to find out what they liked best about working at BKD. Here’s what they said:
Being a part of so many different client engagement teams and developing relationships with several of the clients I work with on a regular basis
Working in different environments allows me as a staff person to broaden my skills
Learning on the job—it’s very impressive what you learn in a year
Team-building activities organized throughout the year allowed me to connect more with my colleagues than just on an engagement basis
Everyone is always willing to help and give explanations as to why things are done a certain way
I have learned a lot, but it never felt overwhelming
Working with great co-workers and building new relationships with clients—it’s a great feeling when a client sends you a thank-you note for all your hard work because it shows they really appreciate you
The people have been so friendly and supportive
Getting involved in BKD-sponsored activities as well as community organizations my co-workers have recommended
Finding the partner/manager group to be a very approachable, professional, intelligent, energetic and jovial group of individuals
The challenging and learning atmosphere—even first-year staffers are given meaningful work
Getting to work on various tax returns all within the first year of working here
Meeting all the people in the firm and making new friends and contacts
Everything that was presented during recruiting holds true when actually working with BKD
The standard BKD employees hold themselves to
My buddy—we’ve become good friends and he’s helped me through a lot in my first few months
The people are great to work with—we are committed to our core values and those values line up with the way I want to be
The commitment to quality and how friendly and helpful people are
The amount of interesting things my co-workers do in their spare time has been one of the most impressive things—it keeps the work environment exciting and fun
How much positive feedback BKD gets from clients saying things like “this is so much better than how it was done last year with our other auditors …” That has been the single-most impressive quality of this firm to me
The level of expertise and professionalism of the manager/partner group
Camp BKD and the amount of money and effort BKD invested in me right off the bat
How helpful and genuinely committed the people at BKD are about teaching us
The flexibility and independence we have. I figured someone would be telling me exactly what to do every day, but they really leave it up to us to get the work done. I like that extra responsibility
BKD has been extremely educational and has some excellent programs (buddy, coaching) to make you feel welcome and part of the BKD team
The involvement of partners and managers—they are truly concerned with each staff member’s well being and they want to make our time at BKD the best that it can be
The people still treat me the same way they did during interviews—you can really tell that the BKD people were not just putting on a show during the interview process
I work on a more specialized team and the close ties have propelled my training
The investment BKD makes in all its employees to ensure they provide clients with the best services available as well as support employee advancement
How accepting existing staff members are of the learning curve the new hires go through in learning all the ins and outs of everyday tasks
Learning from my superiors’ knowledge of detailed tax code has helped me
You get more help with things than I could ever imagine—I didn’t realize just how much people will sit down with you and explain things until you feel comfortable with a task
I came into accounting to learn as much as I could and have not been disappointed—the more I learn, the more I like what I do
Our client service view of working with clients—I feel this is a great way to get and keep clients with the firm
The people are fantastic, the work is interesting and the atmosphere is enjoyable
BKD is concerned that I have life/work balance—my family time is very important to me and I’m glad that it’s important to BKD, too
The talents of the people that I work with and the reputation that our firm has around the area
The integrity that management has to always do the right thing
The people are great and they are all willing to put down what they are doing to help me understand something—they also are very patient
The commitment to quality and the values that I heard about during the interview process are real
What has impressed me is how well BKD treats its employees and how well the employees treat each other
