Meet Our People

Ayodeji A. Sewoniku

Ayo Sewoniku (left) recently took a trip back to Nigeria to visit friends and family, including her aunt Itunu Rewane.
Level: Staff Accountant
Office: Houston
School: University of Houston, BBA in accounting, 2004, and MSA, 2005
Area: Audit, specializing in manufacturing and distribution
Hobbies: Shopping, reading, traveling, singing and drawing

Challenging Work

Ayo pursued public accounting because it challenges her and stretches her as much as she will allow. The Nigerian native appreciates her job at BKD because she has exposure to a variety of companies and industries. Simply put, it is “the spring board to a great future in the accounting industry,” she says.

Rewarding Opportunities

When Ayo met another person in the industry who could not stop talking about BKD, she had to see for herself what the firm was about. After she interviewed, she remembers thinking “are these people real?” because everyone was so kind and professional. Once she started in Houston, people constantly caught her in the hallway to ask if they could help her or if she was finding things OK. “I can honestly say I chose BKD because of the people, the vast array of knowledge available to you and the opportunity for growth.”

And a Life

Ayo absolutely loves singing in her church choir. She also enjoys traveling to see her family members, who live across the United States and in Nigeria, Africa. She serves as a personal shopper for friends and family. “It is a lot of work and can be quite consuming, however I enjoy the satisfaction of being able to get someone exactly what they want, and the excitement in their face is priceless.”
