Author: Toug Plilar
The May 2016 Warehousing Education and Research Council (WERC) Conference in Providence, Rhode Island, was attended by more than 800 participants—a great turnout representing different types of warehousing and supply chain management companies.
Destin Sandlin, Molly Fletcher and Merril Hoge were keynote speakers. Destin, host of YouTube’s “Smarter Every Day” video series, opened the conference by performing experiments that challenged the attendees to look at the world differently. Molly, named the “female Jerry Maguire” by CNN, shared her life experiences to demonstrate what drives and makes the best leaders. Merril, a former NFL player, wrapped up the conference by discussing how to achieve goals despite obstacles.
The conference delivered consistent information and entertainment: networking events with a friendly atmosphere, motivating guest speakers and more than 70 breakout sessions led by warehousing and supply chain experts from different companies. The sessions were organized in a classroom setting, as peer-to-peer roundtable discussions and local facility tours and covered a range of topics, including:
- Best Practices in 3PL-Shipper Relationship Management
- Data Analytics to Support Metrics
- Managing Millennials: Under 35 and Changing the Workplace
To facilitate networking, lunch was served in a conference room with a trade show atmosphere where people could visit with different companies to discuss what they do in the warehousing arena.
