The long-awaited 2015 electronic health record (EHR) Final Rule was issued October 6, 2015 and will be officially published in the Federal Register on October 16, 2015. The proposed rule has been a cause for concern among hospitals nationwide, so we’ve outlined some major issues pertaining to the finalized rule:

  • The 2015 reporting period is shortened to any continuous 90-day period to address provider concerns about their ability to fully deploy 2014 Edition software.
  • Hospital reporting periods are realigned to the calendar year to give eligible hospitals more time to incorporate 2014 Edition software into their workflows and better align with other quality programs. This means program year 2015 will last 15 months and end December 31, 2015.
  • Other aspects of the programs have been modified to match long-term goals, reduce complexity and lessen providers’ reporting burden.
