Retired BKD Partner Joins Governmental Accounting Standards Board
Date: January 25, 2012
NATIONAL OFFICE – Retired BKD Partner Jim Brown has been selected to the seven-member Governmental Accounting Standards Board (GASB). He will serve a five-year term on the board commencing on July 1, 2012.
“Jim Brown has specialized in government accounting and auditing for nearly 40 years, serving as an auditor and a part-time educator,” said GASB Chairman Robert H. Attmore.
Jim, a CPA and certified government financial manager, served as a BKD partner for more than 25 years before retiring in May 2011. He was responsible for quality control and training for BKD’s government and not-for-profit practice and acted as the firm’s principal contact with GASB. In 2006, Jim received BKD’s PRIDE Award, given annually to an employee and a partner for embodying BKD’s PRIDE values: passion, respect, integrity, discipline and excellence. He formerly taught accounting and auditing at Missouri Southern State University in Joplin, and, since retirement, serves as a continuing education instructor for the American Institute of Certified Public Accountants (AICPA). He also has been a member of AICPA’s Auditing Standards Board and Board of Examiners.
“Being selected for such a prestigious position is a real honor and challenge,” Brown said. “I’m pleased to have the opportunity to help develop and improve the financial accounting and reporting standards used by state and local governments in the United States.”
Joining Brown as a new GASB member is William W. Fish, former chief investment officer of Chartis, U.S., a property and casualty insurance subsidiary of AIG.
“We’re very pleased to welcome them both to the board and I look forward to their informed perspectives on the important issues facing the GASB,” Attmore said.
