BKD Foundation Report 2011

BKD Foundation

BKD is connected to the community. Our personnel serve on boards and committees for the charitable organizations we support, so we see firsthand the needs and offer our help as neighbors and friends. That’s what we mean when we say experience community. The BKD Foundation, the firm’s charitable arm, has raised and distributed more than $7.3 million to qualifying 501(c)(3) organizations since February 2000.

For many not-for-profit organizations, both financial and volunteer assistance is critical. That was especially true in Joplin, Missouri, which was ravaged by a massive tornado in May 2011. Multiple BKD offices contributed through the foundation to help with rebuilding efforts, including building a new home for a family whose home was destroyed in the storm. BKDers also helped the foundation sponsor fundraisers dedicated to curing cancer, diabetes and Alzheimer’s, as well as to feeding the hungry, sheltering the homeless and helping families affected by addiction and abuse.

Directing dollars to these worthwhile organizations provides much-needed nourishment for nonprofits struggling to raise funds in a tougher environment. Grant recipients said the foundation’s support last year was a game-changer and, consequently, a major morale booster.

The foundation’s influence, however, goes well beyond writing checks. Our partners and employees live and work in these communities, and they have eagerly volunteered for the organizations receiving foundation support. Just as BKD strives to provide unmatched client service, the BKD Foundation works to deliver unmatched community service.
